Rt. Hon. (Chief) Fred Agbedi, Ph.D, Member representing Sagbama/Ekeremor Federal Constituency in the House of Representatives, joined Hon. Col. (Rtd.) Bernard Kenebai, Member representing Sagbama Constituency II in the Bayelsa State House of Assembly, and other distinguished personalities to honor the life and legacy of the late Chief Sunday Canus Kenebai, who passed away at the venerable age of 94.

Leading the solemn ceremonies was Hon. Col. Bernard Kenebai, son of the deceased, who paid tribute to a father whose life was defined by discipline, integrity, and an enduring positive influence. The late Chief Kenebai, the eldest man in Ayama-Ibeni Community, Sagbama LGA, was widely regarded as a principled leader, a firm disciplinarian, and a strong advocate for unity, love, and community progress. His 94-year journey was marked by diligence, commitment to family, and raising children who have become responsible and impactful members of society.In his heartfelt tribute, Rt. Hon. Agbedi described Chief Kenebai as a symbol of character and moral strength. He noted that the late patriarch’s life exemplified hard work, family cohesion, and dedication to community development. “Chief Kenebai’s legacy lives on not only in his children but also in the countless lives he touched through his wisdom and guidance,” Agbedi remarked.
The final burial rites drew a distinguished assembly of leaders from across federal, state, and local governments. Among those in attendance were Heineken Lokpobiri, Honourable Minister of State for Petroleum; Chief Peremobowei Ebebi, former Deputy Governor of Bayelsa State, Rt. Hon. Abraham Ingobere, Speaker of the Bayelsa State House of Assembly; Members of the Bayelsa State House of Assembly; Prof. Nimibofa Ayawei, Secretary to the Bayelsa State Government; Pastor Peter Akpe, Chief of Staff, Government House; Hon. Collins Okokodia, Senior Adviser on Political Matters to the Governor; Hon. Chief Thomas Amule, Commissioner for Local Government and Chieftaincy Administration; Hon. John Alla, Commissioner for Tourism Development; Hon. Mrs. Alice Tangi, Chairman of Sagbama Local Government Area; alongside several other dignitaries.
Though solemn, the occasion was a dignified celebration of a life well lived, a life of purpose, honor, and generational impact. Chief Sunday Canus Kenebai’s memory remains a source of pride to his family and a lasting inspiration to the wider community he faithfully served for nearly a century.
